Over the last 9 months, the ONS Youth Leadership Council (a group of 16–22-year-old residents from 20 ONS NYCHA communities) has been hard at work exploring issues that are critical to community safety and well-being. Using their skills and experience, the Council has prioritized core policy recommendations for youth and launched its first participatory budgeting process. The YLC engaged their peers across the city to vote on a ballot with 8 projects and gathered over 700 votes. The Office of Neighborhood Safety will provide 65k in funding to support the project's implementation (Launching Neighborhood Cleanup Teams).
The ONS Youth Leadership Council is an initiative of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety, in partnership with the Center for Court Innovation, and the CUNY Intergenerational Change Initiative.
